Mt Elvire via Lake Giles

Day 3 - Back to Perth

We wake to another cold fresh morning, the car thermometer says it’s 4 deg at 7.00am; we slept in this morning. No rain overnight but heavy dew again so have to wait for everything to dry off before packing up.

We pack up, check the car over and head off. Destination Southern Cross. We make our way back to the Bullfinch – Evanston road. The sky became overcast and the temperature dropped, looks like rain is on the way, but it doesn’t come.

Make sure you stop at insections to private haul roads. Haul trucks that use these are big heavy and take a bit to stop. Note the light genarator on the right hand side on the photos below. These roads are in use pretty much 24 hours a day.

The trip back to SC is uneventful although the scenery is nice.

We grab some lunch and petrol, uh I mean diesel ( I can’t help saying petrol generically ). A few more hours and we’re home.

It was a good run and we’ll head back out there again no doubt. So much to see, you could spend a couple of weeks just driving around looking at all the geographical points of interest while have a good time getting there. It’s hard to decide if it’s better heading out in the warmer weather or colder. Each has their benefits and the scenery always looks different.

It’s also interesting to note just how much mining exploration is going on in our back yard with the telltale signs everywhere.

Next destinaton? Maybe the Holland Track………
